Elon Musk pledges 'historically accurate' AI-generated Odyssey film , backs $100m Mel Gibson version

Elon Musk has said his artificial intelligence platform will produce a feature-length adaptation of The Odyssey before the end of the year, while also expressing support for a separate proposal calling for Mel Gibson to direct a live-action version of Homer's epic.

Musk made the announcements on X following the successful box office debut of Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey.

Responding to a post showcasing a Grok Imagine-generated scene inspired by the ancient Greek poem, Musk wrote,"Before this year ends, Grok Imagine will make a full-length movie of The Odyssey that is historically accurate and true to the art of Homer."

Musk later pinned the post to the top of his X profile, signalling his commitment to the AI-generated project.

In a separate exchange, Musk replied "I’m down" to a proposal suggesting he fund a $100 million adaptation directed by Mel Gibson.

The proposal envisioned a historically accurate production using authentic ships, armour, weapons and dialogue performed in Homeric Greek.

The proposal gained significant attention on X before Musk publicly responded.

Musk has been openly critical of Christopher Nolan's interpretation of The Odyssey in recent months.

However, Nolan's film has performed strongly at the global box office, with the publication reporting a $124.5 million domestic opening and $264 million worldwide.

Mel Gibson was highlighted in the proposal because of his experience directing historical films using original languages, including The Passion of the Christ and Apocalypto.

Neither Musk's proposed AI film nor the suggested Mel Gibson project has been formally announced, and no production schedule, cast or additional details have been confirmed.
