Steven Spielberg reveals Emily Blunt’s mysterious role in 'Disclosure Day' bonus feature

Steven Spielberg has offered new insight into Emily Blunt’s mysterious character in Disclosure Day as the acclaimed sci-fi film arrives on digital platforms with exclusive behind-the-scenes content.

The home entertainment release features more than 50 minutes of bonus material, including interviews with the cast and filmmakers exploring the story, characters and production of the film. Among the highlights is a closer look at Blunt’s character, meteorologist Margaret Fairchild, whose unexplained supernatural abilities become central to the narrative.

Speaking in the featurette, Blunt explained that Margaret’s transformation begins during an ordinary day with her boyfriend Jackson, played by Wyatt Russell, when a red cardinal unexpectedly flies into their kitchen. The strange encounter triggers a series of extraordinary events that alter her life.

Russell added that the incident activates Margaret’s hidden abilities, setting her on the path to becoming a key figure in the story. Spielberg described the character’s experience as one of sudden and bewildering change, noting that Margaret unexpectedly begins speaking languages she has never learned, including Russian and Korean.

According to the Oscar-winning filmmaker, Margaret gradually realises that nothing in her life will ever be the same. Her new abilities eventually connect her with programmer Daniel Kellner, portrayed by Josh O’Connor, as the mystery at the heart of Disclosure Day unfolds.

The digital release also includes a feature examining Spielberg’s decades-long collaboration with legendary composer John Williams. Disclosure Day marks the pair’s 30th project together, following classics such as Jaws, E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial and Close Encounters of the Third Kind.

Starring Emily Blunt, Josh O’Connor, Colin Firth, Eve Hewson and Colman Domingo, Disclosure Day is now available to rent and purchase digitally, with 4K UHD, Blu-ray and DVD editions scheduled for release on Aug. 25.
