Shakira and Gerard Piqué were among the world's most high-profile celebrity couples for more than a decade before announcing their separation in 2022.

The Colombian singer and former Barcelona defender first met in 2010 while filming the music video for "Waka Waka (This Time for Africa)," the official song of the FIFA World Cup in South Africa. They confirmed their relationship the following year and went on to welcome two sons, Milan and Sasha.

On June 4, 2022, Shakira and Piqué announced they had decided to separate after 11 years together. In a joint statement, the pair said they were parting ways and asked for privacy, adding that the well-being of their children remained their top priority.

While the statement did not explain the reason behind the split, Spanish media widely reported allegations that Piqué had been unfaithful. Neither Shakira nor Piqué has publicly confirmed those claims.

In later interviews, Shakira described the breakup as one of the most difficult periods of her life, saying the intense media attention made the experience even more challenging for both her and their children.

Following their separation, the former couple reached a custody agreement that allowed Shakira to relocate to Miami with Milan and Sasha.

The breakup also became a major talking point in pop culture after Shakira released several songs widely interpreted as referencing the end of the relationship, including her hit collaboration with Bizarrap, "BZRP Music Sessions #53." The track topped charts around the world and sparked widespread discussion for its lyrics.

Meanwhile, Piqué later confirmed his relationship with Clara Chía Martí, who works at his sports and entertainment company, Kosmos. Since then, the former footballer has largely kept his personal life out of the spotlight, saying he prefers to focus on his family, friends and business ventures.

Although their relationship came to an end, Shakira and Piqué continue to co-parent their two sons while pursuing separate personal and professional lives.
