Jodie Sweetin says 'Full House' co-star, John Stamos, supported her through sobriety
Jodie Sweetin says she and John Stamos bonded over sobriety, supporting one another through recovery milestones

Jodie Sweetin has reflected on the bond she shares with her Full House co-star John Stamos, revealing that the pair grew closer through their respective sobriety journeys.
Speaking during a July 15 appearance on The Dory Jackson Interview, Sweetin said she and Stamos have supported one another through significant recovery milestones over the years.
“John and I really, really connected in a lot of ways over [sobriety],” the actress said.
Sweetin recalled that Stamos presented her with the Experience, Strength and Hope Award in 2019 in recognition of her memoir unSweetined and her recovery journey.
“We have been there to celebrate each other’s big successes and milestones, and I am so glad that I got to be an example of attraction rather than promotion, which is a big principle in recovery,” she said.
The actress explained that the recovery principle encourages people to focus on living by example rather than persuading others.
She described it as allowing people seeking help to find encouragement through the actions of others.
Sweetin, 44, said she had her last drink in 2011 and described sobriety as a life-changing experience that allowed her to discover who she is without destructive behaviour.
“It’s been such a journey — the work I did in 12-step programs, the work I did in outside programs and therapy and also just kind of growing up and, and perspective, you know, all of those things,” she said.
She added that becoming sober had been “very freeing” and gave her the opportunity to see what she was “capable of.”
Stamos, 62, has previously spoken publicly about his own recovery, revealing he stopped drinking in 2015 after being arrested on a driving under the influence charge. He later entered a 30-day substance abuse programme.
When presenting Sweetin's award in 2019, Stamos praised his co-star for supporting him during difficult moments, saying she was “right by my side during some of the most difficult days of my life.”
