While speaking at the 2nd Electrofair 2011 at the Karachi Expo Center here on Tuesday, he said, “This issue is over and finished and the people who are still creating hue and cry are, in fact, misleading the nation.”
Cheema said that only three RPPs namely Naudero I with 50 megawatts (MW), Karkey with 231 MW and Gulf with 62 MW are in operation. The tariff for Naudero I is 4.03 cents per kilowatt, Karkey 5.9 cents and Gulf 3.47 cents, he added.
He pointed out that price was not the issue in RPPs, but it was the high oil prices which raised their tariff.
Cheema who is also a former Pepco MD called upon the technical people, especially engineers, to come to the rescue of the government at both federal and provincial levels so that non-technical authorities should not misguide the country’s leadership. “Technical people must bulldoze non-technical advises before they are implemented,” he observed.
The three-day fair, to be held till September 29, will have different features including exhibition of latest technology being displayed by 80 local and international companies and one-day seminar on power generation and its solutions.
