Horror legends unite as ‘Ever After’ twists fairy tales into nightmare fuel in new trailer

First trailer reveals murderous childhood characters, practical effects and September cinema release

Fans of horror films have a new nightmare to anticipate after the first trailer for Ever After unveiled a dark reimagining of classic fairy tales, complete with an ensemble of well known genre favourites. The upcoming film is set to arrive in cinemas across the United States and Canada on September 4 before continuing its international rollout.

Written and directed by Laszlo Illes, Ever After transforms familiar childhood stories into a violent survival horror tale where beloved characters become ruthless killers. Rather than presenting traditional fairy tale heroes and villains, the film imagines a terrifying world in which figures such as Little Red Riding Hood, the Big Bad Wolf, the Evil Witch and Prince Charming stalk their victims through isolated woodland.

The story follows a group of friends celebrating a bachelorette weekend at a secluded forest lodge. Their getaway quickly turns into a desperate fight for survival after they discover the surrounding woods are inhabited by murderous fanatics who believe they are the legendary characters from classic fairy tales. As darkness falls, childhood fantasy gives way to brutal horror, with every encounter becoming increasingly deadly.

One of the film's biggest attractions is its cast of horror veterans. Ever After features Mark Sheppard, Bonnie Aarons, Michael Berryman, Kane Hodder and Malcolm McDowell, bringing together performers recognised for memorable roles across horror and cult cinema. Aarons became widely known for portraying the terrifying demon nun in The Nun, while Hodder remains closely associated with Jason Voorhees from the Friday the 13th franchise. Berryman earned cult status through The Hills Have Eyes, McDowell is celebrated for his performance in A Clockwork Orange, and Sheppard has built a loyal following through Supernatural and numerous genre productions.

The newly released trailer highlights a combination of practical creature effects, elaborate costumes and large scale action sequences instead of relying solely on digital imagery. That creative approach aims to capture the atmosphere of classic horror while presenting a fresh take on well known fairy tale mythology.

Speaking about the production, Illes described working alongside the experienced cast as a career milestone. He said collaborating with Mark Sheppard, Bonnie Aarons, Michael Berryman, Kane Hodder and Malcolm McDowell had been a long held dream and praised each performer for fully embracing their characters. The filmmaker added that he hopes horror fans around the world enjoy the dark and unpredictable journey as much as the cast and crew enjoyed creating it.

Level 33 Entertainment will distribute the film, and company President and Chief Executive Officer Andreas Olavarria explained why the project stood out. He described Ever After as a bold and imaginative horror feature featuring an outstanding collection of genre favourites. Olavarria also said the film successfully transforms familiar fairy tale characters into unforgettable nightmares while delivering the kind of theatrical horror experience audiences continue to embrace.
