Petzschner took to the court solo to beat compatriot Mischa Zverev 7-5, 6-3.

US Open doubles champion Philipp Petzschner took to the court solo to beat compatriot Mischa Zverev 7-5, 6-3 in the first round of the Malaysian Open singles. “It’s great to get through the first match,” said Petzschner. “Some of the European players are having problems with the jet lag a little bit, but I’m really happy with my performance on court.” Petzschner and his Austrian partner Jurgen Melzer have won two grand slam doubles trophies in as many seasons together, triumphing on grass at Wimbledon in 2010.
