A family's Airbnb stay took a bizarre turn after one shocking discovery

A family's stay at an Airbnb in San Diego took an unexpected turn after they realized they appeared in a piece of artwork hanging inside the rental.

TikTok user Aubrey Birrell shared the surprising discovery in a video posted on July 2. While exploring the property after checking in, the family noticed a large beach canvas displayed in the hallway. As they looked closer, Birrell's father believed he recognized himself in the image.

After examining the artwork, the family concluded that the tiny figures shown in the water were Birrell's father, sister Libby and brother Brady from about a decade earlier. Birrell pointed out that they were wearing the same swimsuits from that beach trip, leaving the family both shocked and amused by the coincidence.

Libby Birrell described the experience as unsettling, saying it was strange to find what appeared to be an old image of their family displayed in the vacation rental.

The video quickly gained attention on TikTok, where viewers shared their reactions. Some compared the discovery to the plot of a horror movie, while others joked that it was evidence of living in a simulation. Several users also recounted similar experiences of unexpectedly spotting themselves or family members in photographs, postcards and newspapers years after the images were taken.

It remains unclear how the family's image ended up on the artwork displayed in the Airbnb. Fox News Digital reported that it reached out to Aubrey Birrell for comment.
