Hill streams swell after rains

Authorities issue high alert as water flow rises

DERA GHAZI KHAN:

Water levels in the hill torrents of Dera Ghazi Khan rose significantly following monsoon rains, prompting the district administration to issue a high alert, although officials said no flooding had been reported and all streams remained within normal limits.

According to the latest report, Sanghar Rod Kohi recorded a flow of 41,088 cusecs, while Sori Lund carried 26,974 cusecs of water. Water flow was recorded at 973 cusecs in Sakhi Sarwar and 2,188 cusecs in Mithawan Nullah. Meanwhile, Korah, Vehova and Vidor nullahs remained dry.

Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Usman Khalid said all hill torrents were under continuous monitoring and that no medium or high-level flood threat existed anywhere in the district.

In view of the ongoing monsoon season, officials remained at the district control room to monitor the rainfall situation and visited various parts of the city to inspect drainage operations and emergency preparedness.

Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) Managing Director Malik Jawad Kaleem, Assistant Commissioner Taimur Usman and other officials from relevant departments accompanied the DC during the inspections.

He directed WASA, the municipal corporation, and other civic agencies to ensure the immediate drainage of rainwater from low-lying areas to minimise inconvenience for residents.
