Punjab judges to get subsidised cars

Scheme allows 2,000 judicial officers to purchase official cars for Rs250-350k

RAWALPINDI:

The Lahore High Court (LHC) administration has announced what it describes as a major incentive for judicial officers serving in Punjab's subordinate judiciary by offering them the opportunity to acquire ownership of their official vehicles at heavily subsidised prices.

Under the scheme, District and Sessions Judges, Additional District and Sessions Judges, Senior Civil Judges, Civil Judges and Family Judges will be allowed to acquire the government-owned vehicles currently allotted to them, including Suzuki Alto, Toyota Corolla and Honda City models, at prices ranging from Rs250,000 to Rs350,000.

The concession has also been extended to judges serving in Anti-Terrorism Courts, Accountability Courts, Banking Courts, FIA Special Courts, Anti-Narcotics Courts, Customs Courts and Labour Courts across Punjab.

In addition, judicial officers from the Punjab judiciary currently serving on deputation to the Islamabad High Court, the Supreme Court of Pakistan, the Constitutional Court, and the federal and provincial law ministries will also be eligible to purchase their official vehicles under the same subsidised scheme.

According to the notification, approximately 2,000 judicial officers are expected to benefit from the initiative.

The Director General, Directorate of District Judiciary, Lahore High Court, has issued implementation instructions to all District and Sessions Judges across Punjab. Judicial officers have been directed to submit pay orders in favour of the Registrar, Lahore High Court, for the prescribed amount by July 22, 2026.

The vehicles covered under the scheme are currently being used by the judges as official transport and remain the property of the Lahore High Court

Official figures show that the Punjab judiciary presently comprises 147 District and Sessions Judges, around 500 Additional District and Sessions Judges, 110 Senior Civil Judges, and nearly 1,000 Civil Judges, Family Judges and Judicial Magistrates.

The 74-page circular, bearing reference No. 10048/TMF-P&D-11/DDJ, was issued by the Director General, Directorate of District Judiciary, on 11 July 2026, directing all eligible judicial officers to submit pay orders for the subsidised purchase price of their allotted vehicles by July 22.

The announcement has reportedly been welcomed by members of the subordinate judiciary, with court staff seen visiting banks on Tuesday to obtain pay orders for the concessional purchase of their official vehicles.
