Is Blue Beetle returning? Xolo Maridueña reportedly joins 'Man of Tomorrow'

Xolo Maridueña will reportedly return as Blue Beetle in DC Studios' 'Man of Tomorrow' alongside Superman

Xolo Maridueña is reportedly set to reprise his role as Jaime Reyes, also known as Blue Beetle, in DC Studios' upcoming film Man of Tomorrow, according to a report from Nexus Point News. DC Studios has not commented on the report.

Maridueña first portrayed the DC superhero in 2023's Blue Beetle, directed by Ángel Manuel Soto. Although the film was developed before James Gunn and Peter Safran took over DC Studios, the executives previously confirmed that Jaime Reyes would remain part of the new DC Universe (DCU), with Maridueña continuing in the role. If the latest report is accurate, Man of Tomorrow will mark the character's first appearance in the rebooted cinematic universe.

The upcoming film serves as a follow-up to Superman and is written and directed by James Gunn. David Corenswet returns as Superman, while Nicholas Hoult is set to reprise his role as Lex Luthor. The reported cast also includes Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Aaron Pierre as John Stewart, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner, Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific, Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, Sara Sampaio as Eve Teschmacher, Lars Eidinger as Brainiac and Adria Arjona in an undisclosed role.

Created by Keith Giffen, John Rogers and Cully Hamner, Jaime Reyes debuted in Infinite Crisis #3 in 2006 as the third hero to carry the Blue Beetle mantle. Bonded to an alien scarab, the character possesses advanced armour with abilities including flight, energy projection and weapon generation.

Man of Tomorrow is currently in production and is scheduled for release by Warner Bros. on July 9, 2027. Until DC Studios officially confirms the casting, Maridueña's reported return remains unverified.
