Benny Blanco shares what Selena Gomez asked before they went public with their relationship in late 2023

Music producer Benny Blanco has opened up about a private conversation he had with Selena Gomez before the couple decided to make their relationship public. 

In an interview with El País, Blanco recalled that Gomez wanted to ensure he was comfortable with the attention their romance would attract before confirming it publicly.

According to Blanco, the couple kept their relationship private for around eight or nine months after they began dating in 2023. Before Gomez confirmed the relationship in December of that year, she reportedly asked whether he was certain he wanted to take the next step, adding that she would understand if he preferred to remain friends instead.

Blanco said he decided they should move forward with the relationship publicly, explaining that both of them are fortunate to have close friends and family who have remained part of their lives despite their fame.

The record producer also discussed the challenges of living in the public eye, noting that he prefers to keep his personal life private. While he occasionally shares photos of Gomez or memorable moments on social media, he said most of his online activity remains focused on his work.

Blanco added that Gomez has spent much of her life navigating public scrutiny, making it something the couple has learned to manage together.

Gomez previously spoke about her relationship with Blanco during a 2024 interview with Apple Music's Zane Lowe, describing it as the safest she has ever felt and praising the understanding they share.

The pair began dating in 2023 before confirming their relationship publicly later that year. They announced their engagement in December 2024 and married in September 2025. Since then, the couple have continued making public appearances together while balancing their careers with a relatively private personal life.
