Bachelor's Joe Amabile opens up about life-changing health diagnosis

Bachelor alum Joe Amabile has revealed that he has been diagnosed with what appears to be an early-stage brain tumor and is preparing to undergo brain surgery later this month.

The 40-year-old reality star, widely known to fans as "Grocery Store Joe," shared the health update in a candid video on social media, explaining that doctors discovered a lesion during a full-body Prenuvo scan.

"I didn't share my Prenuvo results because they ended up finding a lesion in my brain," Amabile said. "I had to get a brain MRI, and there was a blueberry-sized lesion in my brain that looks to be a glioma, which is a tumor."

Amabile said he is scheduled to undergo a craniotomy in two weeks to remove the lesion, which will then be tested to determine its exact nature.

"It's been a wild couple weeks. Definitely wasn't expecting this," he said. "They say it's really early stages. I hope they are able to get it all, and I'm fine. But I will keep you updated."

In the caption accompanying his post, Amabile said the past month has been filled with "a lot of ups and downs" following multiple scans and MRIs. He added that he has decided to share his diagnosis because it is now part of his life.

"I'm doing my best to stay positive during this time and am lucky to have a lot of support from family and friends," he wrote.

His wife, fellow Bachelor franchise alum Serena Pitt, offered her support in the comments, writing, "You're so strong and we're going to get through this together ❤️ I love you."

Amabile first appeared on The Bachelorette in 2018 before finding love with Pitt on Bachelor in Paradise. The couple married in 2022 and later celebrated with a larger wedding ceremony in 2023. They now co-host the podcast Not Married to This with Serena and Joe.
