The District Health Authority has declared six union councils in Potohar Town as high-risk for dengue and announced a 16-day anti-dengue campaign from Tuesday to prevent mosquito breeding.
Under the campaign, 131,000 homes in the six union councils will be covered.
According to District Health Officer (Preventive) Dr Hafiz Jawad Zahid, the six union councils were declared high-risk based on dengue data from the past three years, during which 2,890 cases were reported.
Under the campaign, special attention will be given to 26,119 houses and 4,448 sensitive sites in Dhoke Munshi; 21,597 houses and 3,330 sensitive sites in Kotha Kalan; 16,987 houses and 1,866 sensitive sites in Dhaman Syedan; 25,191 houses and 2,788 sensitive sites in Dhamiyal; 21,866 houses and 5,466 sensitive sites in Chak Jalal Din; and 30,132 houses and 3,029 sensitive sites in Garja Union Council.
A sweeping operation is being carried out to eliminate dengue larvae, and 131,000 houses will be made dengue-safe by the end of the campaign.
Dr Zahid said the anti-dengue campaign was being given full attention and all available resources would be utilised to ensure a timely response against dengue outbreaks.
