Prime Video has released the first official images from its upcoming limited series Carrie, offering fans an early look at Mike Flanagan’s new adaptation of Stephen King’s classic horror novel.

The eight-episode series is scheduled to premiere later this fall and aims to reimagine the iconic story for a modern audience.

Speaking about the project, Flanagan said the series is not intended to recreate previous adaptations but instead build "something new" using the core themes and characters from King’s novel. He explained that issues such as bullying, empathy and violence remain just as relevant today, particularly in the era of social media, allowing the story to explore the realities of modern teenage life.

T

he new adaptation follows Carrie White, played by Summer H. Howell, a socially isolated teenager raised by her deeply religious and overprotective mother, Margaret White, portrayed by Samantha Sloyan. After the sudden death of her father forces her into public high school, Carrie becomes the target of a viral bullying scandal while simultaneously discovering her powerful telekinetic abilities.

Flanagan also revealed that the series expands the mythology beyond King’s original novel. Each episode will reportedly begin by introducing another woman from a different place and time who possesses telekinetic powers, with Carrie's connection to these individuals unfolding throughout the season.

The series features an ensemble cast including Siena Agudong, Alison Thornton, Joel Oulette, Josie Tota, Arthur Conti, Thalia Dudek, Amber Midthunder and Matthew Lillard.

Produced by Amazon MGM Studios, Carrie is written and executive produced by Mike Flanagan, with Stephen King also serving as an executive producer. The series marks the latest television adaptation of one of King's most celebrated horror stories.
