Netflix has released the first teaser for Mourinho, a new documentary series exploring the career of legendary football manager José Mourinho, while confirming its global premiere date.

The teaser, released on the same day Mourinho began his second spell as Real Madrid manager, shows the Portuguese coach reflecting on his career while giving viewers a tour of his trophy room.

Among the memorabilia featured are a replica Premier League trophy, boots signed by Diego Maradona and Cristiano Ronaldo's first professional shirt.

“I started winning in 2003, and my last title was 2022,” Mourinho says in the teaser. “So it was 20 years winning. That why you want to tell my story. You don’t do a documentary with a guy that wins nothing.”

The documentary also revisits Mourinho's famous "Special One" nickname, first coined during his arrival at Chelsea in 2004.

“It’s not like I come here and I think I’m special,” he says. “‘The Special One’ is some special shit some guys in England found for me.”

When an interviewer points out a mural of Mourinho behind him, the manager turns in surprise, adding a lighter moment to the teaser.

Filmed over two years, Mourinho charts the manager's rise from Champions League success with Porto to Premier League titles with Chelsea, another European triumph with Inter Milan and a La Liga title with Real Madrid.

The series also covers his spells at Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur, Roma, Fenerbahçe and Benfica before his return to Real Madrid.

The documentary features interviews with several prominent figures from football, including Didier Drogba, Frank Lampard, John Terry, Petr Čech, Iker Casillas, Javier Zanetti, Luis Figo, Samuel Eto'o, Alex Ferguson and Zlatan Ibrahimović.

Produced by Ventureland, the series is executive produced by John Battsek and Miles Coleman, with Joe Pearlman serving as director. It joins Netflix's growing catalogue of sports documentaries following titles featuring figures such as Vinnie Jones and Jamie Vardy.

The sports documentary will launch worldwide on August 11.
