'House of the Dragon' Season 3 Episode 4 recap: Lord Ormund emerges as a new leader amid rising tensions
Rhaenyra, Daemon, and the Greens face new challenges as tensions with the Blacks deepen

House of the Dragon Season 3, Episode 4 expands the conflict between the Greens and the Blacks by introducing Lord Ormund Hightower as a central figure, while advancing several key storylines across Westeros.
The episode focuses more on political manoeuvring than large-scale action, laying the groundwork for future battles.
Lord Ormund, head of House Hightower, emerges as a calculating and unpredictable leader.
After deceiving Rhaenyra and Daemon with a false Daeron sent to King's Landing, he strengthens his position at Tumbleton while relying on the expected arrival of Aemond and Vhagar. His strategy also places civilians at the centre of the conflict, limiting Rhaenyra's military options.
The episode highlights Ormund's contrasting public and private behaviour. He initially delivers justice by ordering punishment for a Hightower soldier accused of attacking Kat, the wife of Hugh Hammer.
However, he later orders Daeron to execute Kat's brother for striking one of his soldiers, forcing the young prince to carry out the sentence.
Ormund also reveals his ambition to place Daeron on the Iron Throne, arguing that he would make a more suitable ruler than his surviving brothers.
His frustration grows after learning that Aemond, Vhagar and other Green forces have failed to arrive, exposing his volatile temperament despite his otherwise composed leadership.
Elsewhere, Rhaenyra attempts to strengthen her authority in King's Landing while facing growing public criticism. Ulf's requests are rejected, and reports of graffiti labelling her the "Queen of Bastards" prompt her to send the Gold Cloaks to punish those responsible.
Daemon's search leads him to Rhaena and Sheepstealer, before he attempts to conceal the truth from Rhaenyra with a false explanation.
Although Episode 4 contains limited action, its political developments and character moments provide significant momentum for the season's continuing story.
The eight-episode season airs weekly on Sundays on HBO, with the season finale scheduled for August 9, 2026.
