'Dune 3' trailer unveils stunning first look at Timothée Chalamet and Zendaya
Denis Villeneuve and Timothée Chalamet have unveiled the most extensive look yet at Dune: Part Three, revealing an action filled trailer that expands the scope of the highly anticipated conclusion to the filmmaker's acclaimed science fiction trilogy. Presented during a global IMAX fan event, the new footage offered audiences their clearest glimpse of the film's darker tone, major returning characters and several important story developments inspired by Frank Herbert's novel Dune Messiah.
The special presentation took place in Los Angeles while simultaneously reaching fans through screenings in Chicago, Dallas, Toronto, Montreal, London, Berlin, Mexico City and Abu Dhabi. Warner Bros and Legendary Pictures also confirmed that both the trailer and an extended sequence from the film would be shown before IMAX 70mm screenings of The Odyssey, giving cinema audiences another opportunity to experience the footage on the big screen.
Dune: Part Three continues the story of Paul Atreides following the events of Dune: Part Two. Set 17 years after Paul's rise to power, the film explores the consequences of his reign as emperor and the growing burden of leadership. Unlike the triumphant ending of the previous film, the trailer presents a ruler haunted by uncertainty and regret. During one emotional moment, Paul admits that although visions once guided him, he can no longer clearly see the future before him.
The trailer also introduces Robert Pattinson's Scytale, a shape shifting adversary determined to overthrow Paul's empire. Scytale speaks openly about striking at the centre of imperial power, establishing himself as one of the trilogy's most dangerous new threats. His arrival signals an increasingly political conflict alongside the personal struggles already facing Paul.
Zendaya returns as Chani, whose relationship with Paul has grown increasingly complicated following his political marriage to Princess Irulan, portrayed by Florence Pugh. The trailer highlights the emotional distance between the former lovers while also suggesting that Chani's desire to have a child will become an important element of the story. Villeneuve has previously described the evolving relationship between Paul and Chani as the emotional heart of the third film.
Another surprise comes through the return of Duncan Idaho, played by Jason Momoa. Although Duncan sacrificed himself protecting Paul and Lady Jessica in the original Dune, he returns as a ghola, a resurrected version created for a new purpose. The trailer features a tense conversation between Duncan and Paul in which Duncan warns that a proposed peace agreement is actually designed to destroy the emperor.
Several familiar faces also return for the concluding chapter. Rebecca Ferguson reprises her role as Lady Jessica, Javier Bardem returns as Stilgar, while Anya Taylor Joy once again portrays Alia Atreides. Speaking during the event, Chalamet praised Taylor Joy's performance, describing her portrayal as both terrifying and extraordinary.
Following the trailer debut, Chalamet discussed one of the central themes inherited from Herbert's novels. He explained that Dune Messiah was written partly to challenge readers who viewed Paul as a traditional heroic figure. According to Chalamet, Herbert intended the sequel as a warning about the dangers of charismatic leaders and the corrupting influence of power, themes that become increasingly prominent in the new film.
Timothée Chalamet: "Zendaya, as you can see in [the new trailer], gives such a fantastic performance in this as usual."

Chalamet also credited Villeneuve for expanding several relationships beyond what appeared in the original novel, particularly Paul's complicated bond with Chani. He praised Zendaya's performance and highlighted the director's creative choices in strengthening the emotional storyline.
Villeneuve described Dune: Part Three as his most personal instalment, explaining that while the first film focused on discovery and the second became a war epic, the concluding chapter delivers greater action alongside deeper emotional stakes.
The presentation concluded with Chalamet announcing a surprise for fans attending each participating theatre. Hidden envelopes beneath selected seats awarded winners private screenings of Dune: Part Three when the film arrives in cinemas on December 18, giving a handful of devoted fans an early opportunity to witness the final chapter of Villeneuve's acclaimed adaptation.
