ISLAMABAD: Oxfam, an international aid agency, expressed concerns over the donors’ slow response towards the recent floods in Sindh and Balochistan.

Country Director of Oxfam in Pakistan, Neva Khan, said millions of innocent people are in need of basic necessities of life like food, water, sanitation, healthcare and shelter.

“This is a cruel repeat of last year. Again funding is too little and far too slow. Donors must recognise the gravity of the situation,” Khan said.

According to reported facts, $215 million is the total loss. Approximately 6.8 million acres of land have been damaged by the floods, an area nearly as large as Haiti.

“People are living in desperate conditions. Each passing day puts more people at risk of deadly diseases, forces more people into hunger and destroys more futures. We are in a battle against time. Donors, the UN, aid agencies and the government, need to step up their response immediately. People need help now,” said Khan.

Aid in natural disaster and loans for infrastructure.

When senior politicians and ex-PM say aid is a curse, then donors might wonder whether PAK is a right a place for aid.

Donors slow response is probably due to claims by politicians that Pakistan must stand on its own two feet and stop begging for aid. Imran khan responded that foreign aid should be replaced by loans when asked a question.
