Elle Fanning and Julianne Moore are set to star in Moonsong: A Life In Seven Verses, a new biographical drama from filmmaker Rebecca Miller about the life and legacy of celebrated children’s book author Margaret Wise Brown.

The upcoming film will mark Miller’s ninth feature as a director, with the filmmaker also writing the screenplay. Based on Leonard S. Marcus’ biography Margaret Wise Brown: Awakened by the Moon, the movie will explore the creative journey of one of the most influential figures in children’s literature.

Brown became known worldwide for timeless classics including Goodnight Moon and The Runaway Bunny. Often called the “laureate of the nursery,” her books have remained popular for generations, becoming bedtime favorites and classroom staples across the globe.

The project was developed for Miller and her producing partner Damon Cardasis through Round Films after being introduced by Amanda Goodwin, Keri Selig, and Sasha Alexander. Acclaimed filmmaker Martin Scorsese will serve as an executive producer, with production expected to begin in spring 2027.

The collaboration reunites Miller and Scorsese after their work together on the five-part documentary series Mr. Scorsese, which earned critical acclaim and multiple awards, including a Directors Guild of America honor.

Moore recently appeared in projects including The Debut and Tom Ford’s Cry to Heaven, while Fanning continues to expand her career as both an actor and producer. She currently stars in and produces Margo’s Got Money Troubles, earning an Emmy nomination for her performance, and is set to appear in The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping.

With an acclaimed creative team and two award-winning actresses leading the cast, Moonsong: A Life In Seven Verses is expected to become one of the notable literary biopics currently in development.
