Kathy Griffin has sparked widespread conversation after publicly introducing her new boyfriend on social media, revealing that the comedian is dating a 22 year old man. The announcement quickly attracted thousands of reactions, with supporters applauding Griffin's confidence while others questioned the significant age gap between the couple.
The 65 year old comedian shared the news on Instagram with a photograph showing her holding hands with the younger man as they prepared to step into a car. Keeping her caption brief and playful, Griffin wrote, "He's 22. Have at it, internet," seemingly anticipating the discussion that would follow.
Several hours after posting the photograph, Griffin returned to the comments section and admitted she was amused by the public response, writing that she was laughing at the discussion unfolding beneath her announcement.
Although Griffin has not publicly identified the young man or shared further details about the relationship, the post appears to confirm they are romantically involved. His identity remains unknown, and Griffin has not revealed how long they have been together.
The relationship is not the first time Griffin has spoken openly about dating someone much younger. In a personal essay published in The Cut in December 2025, she reflected on a previous romance with a 23 year old man. In the essay, Griffin explained that she appreciated what she described as his lack of the biases she had often encountered in older partners.
She wrote that she felt genuinely seen and comfortable during the relationship, adding that spending time together brought her a sense of contentment. Although that romance ultimately ended after a relatively short period, Griffin said she had no regrets about the experience and viewed it positively.
The comedian's openness about her personal life has remained a defining part of her public image throughout her career. Whether discussing relationships, health challenges or professional setbacks, Griffin has frequently addressed personal topics directly with fans, often using humour to defuse criticism.
Her latest relationship also comes several years after the end of her marriage to Randy Bick. Griffin and Bick married in 2020 after nearly a decade together, having first begun dating in 2011. Their divorce was finalised in Los Angeles County Superior Court in 2023 following three years of marriage. Before that relationship, Griffin was married to software entrepreneur Matthew Moline between 2001 and 2005.
While reactions to Griffin's latest announcement remain divided, the comedian has shown little interest in responding defensively to criticism. Instead, her social media activity suggests she expected public scrutiny and chose to acknowledge it with humour rather than avoid it.
