Jaime King has addressed the questions surrounding her absence from Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce's lavish wedding, explaining why neither she nor her 10-year-old son, Leo Thames – Swift's godson – attended the star-studded celebration at New York's Madison Square Garden.

The actress, 47, became one of the most talked-about absentees after Swift's wedding welcomed around 1,000 guests, including close friends and family. Given King's long-standing friendship with the pop superstar and Swift's role as Leo's godmother, many fans speculated that their absence signalled a falling out.

However, King's publicist dismissed those rumours in a statement to People, explaining that the decision had nothing to do with the pair's friendship.

"The reason Jaime chose Taylor as Leo Thames's godmother is because they both believe that being a godmother is a deeply personal and spiritual commitment that has nothing to do with public appearances," the statement read.

The representative added that Leo was simply too young to attend such a large adult celebration.

"Leo Thames is still too young for a large adult wedding celebration. But he and his mother were able to joyfully celebrate Taylor and Kelce's marriage in his own very special, age-appropriate way during his summer break."

Swift and King first became friends after meeting at a Golden Globes after-party in 2014. The following year, King asked the Grammy winner to become Leo's godmother, explaining at the time that she admired Swift's kindness, generosity and strong family values, saying those qualities made her the ideal spiritual guide for her son.

The statement comes after months of speculation about the status of their friendship, as the pair have rarely been seen together publicly in recent years. Despite the rumours, King's comments suggest that Swift's role in Leo's life remains separate from public appearances or high-profile events.

King was not the only notable absentee from the wedding. Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds, whose children are also among Swift's godchildren, were likewise missing from the celebrations, although their absence has been linked to separate reports of a strained friendship following Lively's legal dispute with Justin Baldoni.

Swift and Kelce exchanged personalised vows during their 3 July wedding before an estimated 1,000 guests. While Leo did not attend the ceremony, King's representative emphasised that the milestone was still celebrated privately, underscoring that godparenthood is about a lasting personal commitment rather than attendance at public occasions.
