Waseem Abbas says he respects his children's decision to live separately
Veteran actor explains why he prefers guest house over staying with son, daughter-in-law

Veteran actor Waseem Abbas said that he respected his children's decision to live separately, sharing that he preferred to stay in a guest house than with his son and daughter-in-law so as to not inconvenience them.
In an interview, Abbas shared, "On a previous podcast, there was a discussion on Gen-Z and joint-family living. My kids are older than that category and married. Yet, they do not live with their parents and that is completely normal."
Regarding his son Ali Abbas and his daughter-in-law, the actor noted that he does not live with them but opts for a guest house when he visits Karachi. "I stay in a guest house not for the reason that my son or daughter-in-law do not want me to stay with them, but because I worry about making things difficult," the actor said. He added, "In terms of my work, I get done very late and the distances in Karachi are very far. If I am getting home after two in the morning, I do not want my daughter-in-law to wait for me so she can give me food and tea before she goes to bed."
Further, Abbas shared, "My daughter-in-law has to get up early, get the kids dressed, take them to school, to Quran classes, and sometimes the kids have commitments like going to a birthday party or a doctor's appointment. I do not want her to also worry about taking care of me."
The actor emphasised that although his son and daughter-in-law get upset when he does not stay with them, he believes that elders should also learn how to respect the privacy of those younger. "When I stay elsewhere, they get upset but I make excuses that I have to have people over and do not want to burden them," Abbas said.
Discussing son Ali, also an actor, Abbas stated, "Any senior actor will say that they have never seen a more well-mannered man than my son. If he treats others that well, imagine how he is with me," he said. The actor added, "Even now, when I yell at him, he will not respond."
Reflecting on his previous marriage to actor Saba Hameed, Abbas shared that the two remain respectful towards one another. "Our marriage did not work out and we got divorced. That is not such a bad thing," he said. The actor added, "Having respect is not a bad thing. Even if we meet today, we will give each other respect. We would not even mind working in a drama together. We were actually about to one time, but I had some medical concerns."
Abbas also clarified that he has a great relationship with Saba's parents, sending them his best wishes.
