Sharjeel vows province-wide crackdown on wheat hoarders
The Sindh government has decided to launch a province-wide crackdown against wheat hoarders to stabilise flour prices, with support from police and other law enforcement agencies.
Addressing a press conference on Tuesday, Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon said the decision was taken during a marathon cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah.
He said the cabinet had ordered indiscriminate action against hoarders after reports that large quantities of wheat were being stockpiled to create an artificial shortage despite a bumper crop in Sindh and Punjab. "The government will seal warehouses of hoarders and initiate a crackdown to ensure price stability," he added.
He further stated that the cabinet also approved the introduction of an integrated wheat management system in the food department and tasked the Sindh Information Technology Company (SITC) with reviewing the project within a month.
A committee comprising secretaries of food, agriculture and law has also been formed to review the National Wheat Policy 2026-2030 and submit recommendations to the cabinet.
