Donald Trump says he is TikTok's biggest star even bigger than Taylor Swift

The US President made the remarks during a White House briefing as online data quickly challenged the comparison

Donald Trump has once again drawn Taylor Swift into the spotlight after claiming he is the most influential figure on TikTok, despite publicly available figures showing otherwise.

Speaking during a White House press briefing, Trump discussed TikTok while responding to questions about the platform's ownership and influence. During his remarks, he claimed that newly released figures showed he was the number one person on TikTok and suggested that Taylor Swift ranked much lower.

"It was announced about two days ago. The new numbers just came out. You know who the number one person in TikTok is by far? Trump, me. I'm number one," he said, before adding that Taylor Swift was number 11 on the platform.

However, the claim was quickly challenged by publicly available data from TikTok. As of July 7, Trump's official account has around 16.6 million followers and roughly 121.8 million likes across his videos. Taylor Swift, despite posting only a handful of videos this year, has approximately 33.5 million followers and more than 274 million total likes. Neither Trump nor Swift ranks as the platform's most followed account. That position continues to belong to creator Khaby Lame, followed by Charli D'Amelio and MrBeast.

The comments marked the latest chapter in Trump's long running public exchanges involving the global pop star. Their relationship has frequently made headlines in recent years, particularly after Swift became more politically outspoken and endorsed Democratic candidates in previous election cycles.

The latest remarks also arrived only days after widespread media attention surrounding Swift's reported wedding celebrations with NFL star Travis Kelce. During the same period, White House social media accounts shared posts referencing Swift's famous ERAS TOUR branding, prompting criticism from some observers who viewed the content as an attempt to capitalise on the attention surrounding the singer. Neither Swift nor her representatives publicly responded to the latest comments from Trump.

Fact checking organisations and several news outlets were quick to examine Trump's statements, concluding that the available follower numbers did not support his assertion. Reports also noted that Trump offered no evidence for the ranking he referenced during the briefing.

The exchange generated widespread discussion across social media, with users comparing the official follower statistics and debating the President's remarks. While Trump's TikTok account remains one of the largest among political figures, publicly accessible platform data indicates that Taylor Swift continues to have substantially more followers and total engagement on the service.
