Rain-related incidents claim 16 lives

K-P records highest casualties; Punjab, Balochistan also report deaths

ISLAMABAD:

At least 16 people have lost their lives and 38 were left injured across the country in rain- and flood-related incidents over the past week.

According to the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), Khyber Pakhtunkhwa emerged as the worst-hit province.

The NDMA, in its latest situation report covering the period from June 26 to July 2, said the casualties were caused by heavy monsoon rains, collapsing houses and flash floods.

Among the 16 victims were five men, four women and seven children, while the injured included 14 men, four women and 20 children. The authority said house collapses and flash floods were the leading causes of deaths during the reporting period.

Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa suffered the highest human toll, recording nine deaths and 26 injuries, making it the province most severely affected by the ongoing monsoon spell.

Punjab reported four fatalities and nine injuries. The deceased included one man, one woman and two children, while the injured comprised three men, one woman and five children.

In Balochistan, three people were killed, including two women and one child, while three others sustained injuries.

According to the NDMA report, no deaths or injuries were reported from Gilgit-Baltistan, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, or Islamabad during the reporting period.

The authority said it continues to monitor the evolving weather situation as monsoon rains persist across different parts of the country.
