Monica Barbaro joins Margot Robbie and Bradley Cooper in ‘Ocean's Eleven’ prequel
Oscar nominee Monica Barbaro joins the expanding cast as production prepares for the long awaited crime film prequel

Monica Barbaro has officially joined the cast of Warner Bros' upcoming Ocean's Eleven prequel, adding another acclaimed name to one of Hollywood's most anticipated productions. The actress will star alongside Margot Robbie, Bradley Cooper and Wagner Moura in the feature, which is currently preparing to begin production ahead of its scheduled theatrical release on June 25, 2027.
The casting announcement marks another significant career milestone for Barbaro, whose profile has continued to rise following a string of high profile film, television and stage performances. While plot details for the prequel remain under wraps, the project is expected to expand the beloved Ocean's franchise with a new story featuring fresh characters while maintaining the stylish heist formula that made the series a worldwide success.
Bradley Cooper is directing the film while also producing alongside Margot Robbie through her LuckyChap production company. Cooper has also written the screenplay based on characters originally created by George Clayton Johnson and Jack Golden Russell. Earlier script drafts were written by Carrie Solomon.
Warner Bros has kept story details closely guarded, with neither the studio nor filmmakers revealing how Barbaro's character fits into the ensemble. Her addition strengthens an already impressive cast that combines Academy Award nominees and internationally recognised performers.
Barbaro arrives on the project after an exceptionally busy period in her career. She recently completed a sold out run in Les Liaisons Dangereuses at London's National Theatre alongside Lesley Manville and Aidan Turner. She will next appear opposite Callum Turner in Universal's One Night Only, scheduled for release on August 7, 2026.
She is also set to portray former OpenAI executive Mira Murati in Luca Guadagnino's forthcoming film Artificial, which recently secured global distribution through Neon. The project adds another prestigious credit to Barbaro's growing filmography.
The actress received widespread critical acclaim for portraying legendary folk singer Joan Baez in James Mangold's A Complete Unknown opposite Timothée Chalamet. Her performance earned her Academy Award and Screen Actors Guild Award nominations, firmly establishing her among Hollywood's leading emerging talents. Many audiences first recognised Barbaro for playing naval pilot Natasha "Phoenix" Trace in Top Gun: Maverick, one of the highest grossing films of 2022.
The Ocean's Eleven prequel continues Warner Bros' efforts to build on one of its most successful crime franchises. The modern series, led by George Clooney and Brad Pitt, proved to be both a commercial and critical success, while the 2018 spin off Ocean's 8 introduced an all female ensemble led by Sandra Bullock.
Although fans will need to wait until 2027 to see the finished film, the steadily expanding cast has continued to generate excitement. With Cooper directing, Robbie producing and starring, and Barbaro now joining the ensemble, expectations remain high that the prequel will deliver another stylish chapter in the long running Ocean's franchise.
