Illumination has released the first official trailer for Not Alone, introducing audiences to its upcoming animated sci-fi adventure led by Timothée Chalamet and Selena Gomez.
The film, produced by Illumination and distributed by Universal Pictures, is scheduled to arrive in cinemas on 16 April 2027.
Not Alone marks Chalamet's first animated voice role as Joe, an introverted rocket mechanic who lives a quiet and solitary life. Gomez stars as Fran, a talented astro-botanist developing the world's first plant-powered rocket. The trailer offers a first look at the pair's unlikely partnership as they prepare for the rocket's historic launch.
According to the official synopsis, Joe and Fran's plans take an unexpected turn when three mischievous alien fugitives—Dunk, Welly and Shirm—seek refuge in Joe's home. Hoping to return safely to their own planet, the aliens believe Fran's experimental rocket could be their only way home. Their arrival sets the stage for a family-friendly adventure combining science fiction, comedy and heartfelt moments.
The supporting voice cast includes Rob Brydon, Diane Morgan and Jamie Demetriou as the three alien characters, while Brett Goldstein voices Officer Zandro, an overzealous but ineffective law enforcement officer pursuing them across space. Allison Janney and Lamorne Morris also feature in the cast.
The animated feature is co-directed by Eric Guillon, Claire Dodgson and Jonathan Del Val, all of whom have previously worked on successful Illumination productions. The film is produced by Illumination founder and CEO Chris Meledandri, with Joy Poirel, Richard Curtis and David Distenfeld serving as executive producers.
With its first trailer now available, Not Alone has begun its promotional campaign ahead of its theatrical debut. The combination of Timothée Chalamet, Selena Gomez and Illumination's family-friendly storytelling is already generating excitement among animation fans.
