Armie Hammer's ‘Citizen Vigilante’ secures worldwide distribution after Elon Musk-backed buzz
The announcement comes just days after Musk publicly endorsed the film, reposting it on X

Armie Hammer's controversial comeback film Citizen Vigilante has secured a major worldwide distribution deal following a surge of attention fuelled in part by Elon Musk's support of the action thriller.
Quiver Distribution has acquired worldwide rights to the film, excluding the UK, German-speaking territories, South Korea and Taiwan. The deal follows heightened interest in the project after Musk shared the film on X, helping introduce it to millions of users and generating widespread online discussion.
Directed by Uwe Boll, Citizen Vigilante stars Hammer as Sanders, a wealthy American businessman living in Croatia who loses faith in the justice system and embarks on a violent campaign against criminals. The film has drawn criticism for its graphic violence and politically charged themes, while also attracting a vocal online fanbase.
Producer Michael Roesch said Quiver's acquisition would allow the film to reach audiences around the world despite the controversy surrounding its release. He praised the distributor for recognising the project's commercial potential after its recent wave of publicity.
The announcement comes just days after Musk publicly endorsed the film, reposting it on X after Boll made it available to stream free for 48 hours. The filmmaker has since claimed the exposure dramatically increased interest in the project and accelerated international distribution discussions.
Citizen Vigilante marks Hammer's first leading role since his Hollywood career stalled in 2021 following allegations of sexual misconduct. Hammer has denied the allegations, and in 2023 the Los Angeles County District Attorney declined to file criminal charges, citing insufficient evidence.
Critical reaction to the film has been sharply divided. Variety previously described it as a "morally bankrupt" thriller, while some audiences have embraced its provocative style and vigilante storyline.
With worldwide distribution now in place across most major territories, Citizen Vigilante is set to receive its widest release yet, further cementing one of the year's most controversial film rollouts.
