Olivia Wilde has said Hollywood beauty standards have made it harder to find actresses who can fully express themselves on screen.

Speaking on The Run-Through with Vogue, the actor and director discussed ageing in the entertainment industry and the pressure on women to look young.

"It's interesting because as a director, I now am constantly searching for actresses who can still move their faces, and it's not easy," Wilde told Vogue's head of editorial content, Chloe Malle.

Wilde said she does not blame performers who choose cosmetic procedures because she faces the same pressures. "I am a product of the same machine. I am under the same pressures. I get it," she said.

She added that she hopes the beauty industry develops less invasive anti-ageing treatments, calling many current procedures "so medieval."

The 42-year-old said women are often criticised as they age in Hollywood. "I've had the thing of people being like, 'She looks old and dead and awful.' And you're like, 'Fuck! How do you win? It's impossible,'" she said.

Wilde's remarks highlight the continued discussion surrounding ageing, cosmetic treatments and the pressures faced by women working in Hollywood.
