Ted Lasso season 4 has made a major impact following its return to Apple TV, with the season premiere becoming the streaming service’s biggest launch to date.

According to Nielsen data, the Ted Lasso season 4 premiere recorded 296.6 million minutes watched across Aug. 4 and 5. The figure surpasses the launches of previous Ted Lasso seasons as well as other popular Apple TV titles, including Severance and Pluribus.

Nielsen also reported that Ted Lasso season 4 was the most-streamed programme in the United States on Aug. 5, recording more than 200 million minutes watched that day.

The premiere also generated an estimated 7.1 million views, a metric commonly used by streaming platforms to account for differences in programme lengths. The figure was calculated by dividing the total streaming time by the episode’s 42-minute runtime.

Set three years after the events of season 3, Ted Lasso season 4 follows Jason Sudeikis’ Ted as he returns to Richmond. This time, he takes on a new challenge as coach of a second-division women’s football team.

The new season features returning stars Hannah Waddingham, Juno Temple, Brett Goldstein, Brendan Hunt and Jeremy Swift alongside Sudeikis. New cast members include Tanya Reynolds, Jude Mack, Faye Marsay, Rex Hayes, Aisling Sharkey, Abbie Hern and Grant Feely.

Sudeikis continues to serve as an executive producer alongside Hunt, Joe Kelly, Jane Becker, Jamie Lee and Bill Wrubel. Goldstein and Leann Bowen also executive produce and write for the series.

Ted Lasso was developed by Sudeikis, Bill Lawrence, Brendan Hunt and Joe Kelly based on NBC Sports intellectual property.
