The first trailer for The Love Hypothesis has been released, offering a first look at the romantic comedy adaptation starring Lili Reinhart and Tom Bateman.

The footage debuted at Obsessed Fest and shows the chemistry between Reinhart’s Olive Smith and Bateman’s Adam Carlsen ahead of the film’s Prime Video release on September 23.

Based on Ali Hazelwood’s New York Times bestselling novel, The Love Hypothesis follows Olive, a PhD candidate focused on building a career in academia.

Her plans change after she impulsively kisses the intimidating Professor Adam Carlsen in front of her best friend.

The teaser opens with scientific narration that reflects the story’s romance. “The universe is built on trying to find order through connection,” the narrator says.

“Molecules stay in motion, vibrating and colliding until they find a match, and when the do, something miraculous happens…” “They form a bond!”

The trailer also introduces the fake dating arrangement at the centre of the plot. After Olive realises her friend Ahn has feelings for her crush Jeremy, she tries to convince Ahn that she has moved on.

Claire Scanlon directs from a screenplay by Sarah Rothschild, with Elizabeth Cantillon producing. The cast also includes Rachel Marsh as Ahn and Nicholas Duvernay as Jeremy.
