Over 54k mourners treated for injuries
The Rescue 1122 service treated 54,247 mourners during majalis and processions across Punjab.
According to a statement, at least 52,731 mourners injured during self-flagellation received first aid, while 1,516 others with severe injuries were shifted to hospitals.
The department responded to over 67,610 emergencies across the province during the first 10 days of Muharram, including 47,726 medical, 12,189 road traffic,, 840 fire and 13,224 other emergencies.
Officials said over 12,000 rescuers, assisted by 896 ambulances, 2,300 motorbikes and 316 fire and rescue vehicles, remained deployed to provide emergency cover to religious gatherings.
Rescue authorities said the highest number of mourners requiring medical assistance was reported in Multan at 3,631, followed by Dera Ghazi Khan 3,190, Faisalabad 3,053, Hafizabad 2,847, Muzaffargarh 2,506, Jhang 2,478 and Sheikhupura 2,305.
Punjab Minister Khawaja Salman Rafiquel said during a visit to the home department's central control room that the province had remained peaceful due to coordinated efforts by all institutions and cooperation from the citizens and religious leaders.
Inspector General of Police Abdul Karim said no major untoward incident was reported in the province during the period.
