Noah Kahan has appealed to fans to respect his family's privacy and his hometown after revealing that the Alger Brook Road sign in Strafford, Vermont, has been repeatedly stolen by visitors.

The Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter shared a statement on Instagram Stories, saying he had been informed that the road sign had been taken multiple times, creating problems for local residents and officials.

"To fans travelling to the Upper Valley, I've been informed that the Alger Brook Road sign in Strafford has been repeatedly stolen," Kahan wrote. "It is a total disrespect to the folks who live on that road and a headache for the town to deal with."

Kahan explained that he used to live on Alger Brook Road, which he later referenced in his song The View Between Villages. He said he regretted that mentioning the road in his music had led some fans to visit the area in ways that disrupt the lives of local people.

"I hate that because I put the road name in a song that some people have taken that as an invitation to disrupt the lives of the hardworking and kind folks who frequent it," he wrote.

The singer also offered to pay for replacement road signs, asking Strafford residents or select board members to get in touch with him or his mother so he could help cover the cost and discuss possible solutions.

"I will pay for any replacements and hear out any potential solutions you can think of. I'm really sorry you're dealing with this," he added.

Kahan concluded the message by reminding fans that, despite the growing popularity of his music, he remains deeply protective of his hometown and his family's privacy.

"This community has grown much larger and for that reason I feel I should again remind you all about how deeply protective I am over my family's privacy, and of the sanctuary of where I am from. Please don't disturb these places or people."

Released on Kahan's 2022 album Stick Season, The View Between Villages pays tribute to his upbringing in rural Vermont and references real locations from his childhood, including Alger Brook Road. The album's success has turned parts of the state into destinations for fans eager to visit the places that inspired the singer's music.
