James Bond casting race heats up as 007 auditions move to next stage
James Bond auditions move forward as producers and Denis Villeneuve prepare the next round for August

James Bond producers are moving closer to selecting the next actor to portray 007, with a new round of auditions reportedly scheduled to take place in August.
According to a report by Deadline, director Denis Villeneuve and the film’s producers have begun contacting actors who have advanced in the casting process for the next James Bond film.
The upcoming movie will mark the first Bond project developed under Amazon MGM Studios following the company’s acquisition of creative control over the long-running spy franchise. While the studio has not commented on the reported auditions, industry sources suggest that the search for the next James Bond is entering a critical stage.
The report states that Villeneuve has personally reached out to selected candidates as preparations begin for the next round of screen tests later this summer. The exact number of actors expected to audition remains unclear, with estimates ranging from a handful of contenders to more than a dozen performers.
Casting director Nina Gold, who joined the project earlier this year, has reportedly spent recent weeks meeting with actors as part of the extensive search process. Producers Amy Pascal and David Heyman have also been involved in identifying talent for the role.
Although no names have been officially confirmed, several actors frequently linked to Bond discussions, including Harris Dickinson, Callum Turner and Jacob Elordi, are said to fit the profile of performers being considered. However, Deadline noted that none of those names have been verified as finalists.
The next James Bond film remains in development, with Villeneuve attached to direct and Steven Knight writing the screenplay. According to Deadline, the studio hopes to finalise its casting decision by the end of 2026, allowing production to begin in 2027.
