Water utility rejects shortage complaints

HYDERABAD:

As residents continue to complain about severe water shortages amid the ongoing summer heat and the month of Muharram, the Hyderabad Water and Sewerage Corporation (HW&SC) has firmly rejected claims of disruption, insisting that supply is being maintained according to schedule.

Chief Executive Officer Tufail Abro said the utility's field staff, engineers and technical teams were working round the clock to ensure uninterrupted water supply to domestic consumers across the city.

He added that pumping stations had been equipped with heavy-duty generators to maintain operations during electricity outages. "During Muharram, special arrangements have been made to ensure water supply to mosques, imambargahs, majalis venues and procession routes," he said.

Abro further claimed that Mayor Kashif Ali Shoro was personally supervising water supply arrangements during the religious period, and that all complaints regarding shortages were being addressed promptly.

However, these assurances contrast sharply with ground realities reported by citizens, particularly in City, Latifabad and Qasimabad talukas, where residents say water supply remains suspended for several days at a time before being briefly restored.

Locals also pointed to the increasing presence of water tankers across the city as evidence of worsening shortages and reliance on alternative arrangements.

Meanwhile, the Hyderabad SITE Association of Trade and Industry (HSATI) has raised alarm over a severe water crisis in the industrial zone.
