The Summer I Turned Pretty star Sean Kaufman is set to join Matt Damon in Daniels’ upcoming untitled event film for Universal, with the actor currently in negotiations for a major role, according to Deadline.
The highly anticipated project comes from filmmaking duo Daniels, also known as Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert, who will write and direct the film. Kaufman will reportedly lead the younger ensemble cast, which is expected to play a major role alongside Damon. Sandra Oh and Charles Melton are also attached to star in the secretive project.
Universal has not commented on the casting details, and plot information for the upcoming event movie remains under wraps. The film is being produced by Kwan, Scheinert and Jonathan Wang through their production company Playgrounds as part of their overall deal with Universal.
The Daniels team recently produced The AI Doc: Or How I Became an Apocaloptimist through Universal’s specialty label Focus Features. Universal executives Sara Scott and Jacqueline Garell will oversee the new project.
The untitled Daniels event film is scheduled to arrive in theatres on November 19, 2027.
Kaufman rose to international recognition with his role as Steven in Prime Video’s hit romantic drama series The Summer I Turned Pretty. He is set to return for the franchise’s upcoming film continuation. The actor recently appeared in Apple TV+’s science fiction drama For All Mankind season five and will return for its sixth and final season.
His previous television credits also include appearances in Manifest, FBI: Most Wanted and Law & Order: SVU. With his latest casting opposite Damon, Kaufman continues to expand his presence in major Hollywood projects.
