The Toy Story franchise may not be ending anytime soon, as Toy Story 5 writer and director Andrew Stanton has revealed his hopes for a potential Toy Story 6.

The Pixar filmmaker explained that he wants future movies to follow Bonnie’s journey in the same way the original trilogy explored Andy’s story.

The first three Toy Story films focused on the emotional bond between Woody, Buzz Lightyear and Jessie while also following Andy as he grew up. Andy’s story reached a major conclusion in Toy Story 3 when he gave his beloved toys to Bonnie, creating a new chapter for the franchise.

After Toy Story 4 introduced more of Bonnie’s world, Toy Story 5 continues exploring her relationship with her toys. Stanton explained that Andy’s storyline worked because the movies followed the natural experiences of a child growing up, and he hopes the same approach can be used for Bonnie in future installments.

Speaking about the future of the Pixar franchise, Stanton said he would like upcoming Toy Story movies to remain honest and connected to the lives of children in different generations. Producer Lindsey Collins also shared that the series has remained successful because it reflects real changes in kids’ lives and the world around them.

Meanwhile, voice actor Tim Allen has teased an interesting direction for Buzz Lightyear’s future following events in Toy Story 5. The film introduces a new version of Buzz, leaving questions about what could happen in a possible sixth movie.

While Pixar has not officially confirmed Toy Story 6, the continued success of the franchise and strong audience interest could lead to another adventure featuring Bonnie, Woody and Buzz.
