RAWALPINDI:

Justice Sadaqat Ali Khan of the Rawalpindi Bench of the Lahore High Court has admitted for hearing a constitutional petition seeking a judicial inquiry into the killing of nine-year-old Pakistani-origin Australian girl Hania Ahmad, who was allegedly shot dead in heavy firing by Crime Control Department (CCD) personnel in Chakwal.

The petition also requests that the investigation be conducted by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) instead of Punjab agencies.

Filed by Advocate Asif Mahmood Mian on behalf of Muhammad Nadeem, the petition names the Federation of Pakistan and police officials as respondents.

The court issued notices to the Inspector General of Punjab Police, Regional Police Officer Rawalpindi, DPO Chakwal and the home department, directing them to submit detailed replies on Friday, June 19. The petition argues that the incident constitutes a grave violation of citizens' fundamental rights.
