Actress Daveigh Chase's former manager has raised concerns about a GoFundMe campaign launched following the actress's death, claiming that her family and close friends do not know the man behind the fundraiser.
According to TMZ, the fundraiser was created by Roy Hernandez, who identified himself as Chase's boyfriend.
Chase's death was confirmed this week at the age of 35 after a battle with meningitis, which reportedly led to septic complications. Her passing came after she was hospitalised earlier this month for malnutrition.
In the GoFundMe description, Hernandez stated that he met Chase after she experienced a "painful falling out with her family". He said the campaign was intended to provide the actress with a "sense of home and peace in her final days".
However, Chase's former manager and longtime friend challenged those claims in comments to TMZ, urging the public not to contribute to the fundraiser.
"A man claiming to be Daveigh's boyfriend has launched a GoFundMe page purportedly on behalf of Daveigh and her family. Neither her family nor her close friends know who this person is. I can confirm Daveigh has a SAG trust account with more than enough funds to cover all medical and related expenses."
Hernandez responded by saying that the funds would be used to provide Chase with a "proper memorial".
Chase's father is reportedly in contact with the hospital regarding arrangements to claim her body.
She was best known for portraying Samara Morgan in The Ring and voicing Lilo in Lilo & Stitch and Chihiro in the English-language version of Spirited Away.
