UK teen’s blunt 4-word response to social media ban goes viral online
British PM Sir Keir Starmer announced on June 15 that social media access would be restricted for children under 16

A teenager’s deadpan response during a BBC Breakfast interview has gone viral after she reacted to the UK government’s proposed social media ban for under-16s with a simple remark.
The interview took place at Tarleton Academy in Lancashire, where BBC journalist Fiona Lamdin spoke to students about their views following Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer’s announcement that social media access would be restricted for children under 16.
The policy is expected to pass through Parliament before the end of the year and come into force in 2027.
During the segment, students discussed how the school already enforces a phone-free system, requiring pupils to store devices in locked pouches during the school day. Lamdin asked pupils about their screen time and reactions to the proposed restrictions.
One student, Isabella, said she was disappointed by the plan, stating she did not expect it to be implemented and was unsure she agreed with it. She also expressed concern about losing the ability to easily contact friends and family through social media platforms.
When asked what she would do with her spare time if social media access were removed, Isabella responded, “Stare at a wall.”

The brief remark quickly spread online, with clips of the interview gaining millions of views and prompting widespread reactions on social media.
Users described the moment as humorous, with many highlighting the teenager’s blunt delivery.
The policy announcement follows a government consultation that received more than 110,000 responses from the public, including a significant number from parents across the UK.
