‘Love Island USA’ executive producer James Barker sudden death during production
Love Island USA executive producer James Barker has died following an unexpected medical emergency in Fiji while production on the reality series was ongoing.
ITV America and Peacock confirmed the news on June 15 and announced that Barker would be honoured during the following episode of the popular dating series. The companies revealed that Barker passed away last week while working on the current season, which is being filmed in Fiji.
In a joint statement, ITV America and Peacock described Barker as a cherished member of the production family and praised the impact he had on colleagues throughout the company.
The statement said that his loss had been felt not only across the entire Love Island USA production team but throughout ITV and Peacock. It added that Barker’s kindness, talent and dedication left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him and worked alongside him.
The companies also extended condolences to his partner, family, friends and colleagues.
Specific details regarding the medical emergency and Barker’s cause of death have not been publicly disclosed.
According to his professional profile, Barker joined ITV America in 2020 and spent several years working on different aspects of the Love Island franchise. Earlier in 2026, he stepped into the position of full time executive producer on Love Island USA.
The eighth season of the reality series continues to film in Fiji. Hosted by Ariana Madix, the programme follows a group of single contestants living together in a luxury villa while forming romantic connections in pursuit of a cash prize. Episodes are released six days a week on Peacock.
Before the latest season began, Peacock issued a public reminder encouraging viewers to engage respectfully with contestants and fellow fans. The network urged audiences to maintain a positive atmosphere around the programme and emphasised that everyone involved deserved to feel safe and respected.
Barker’s death comes as the production remains active, making the loss particularly emotional for cast and crew members who continue to work on the series.
The tribute planned for Tuesday’s episode will allow viewers to recognise Barker’s contribution to one of Peacock’s most successful reality franchises.
Over the years, Love Island USA has grown into a major television property, and Barker played a significant role in helping shape the series during his time with ITV America. Colleagues described him as a valued and beloved figure whose influence extended far beyond the screen.
