Emily Blunt revealed that she personally created the alien sounds used by her character in Steven Spielberg’s sci-fi thriller Disclosure Day, opting against the use of artificial intelligence during the film’s development.

The actress discussed the creative process behind her role in a recent interview, explaining that Spielberg gave her the option of using AI-generated sounds or creating the character’s unique vocalisations herself.

Blunt said she chose the latter approach and began experimenting with a variety of noises to develop the alien communication style featured in the film.

“Steven and I discussed it, and he said, 'We could do it with AI, or you could do it,' and I was like, 'I feel confident I can make some weird noises,'” Blunt said. “And I was sending him voice memos of me clicking, humming, mixed with Morse code sounds. I just tried everything.”

In Disclosure Day, Blunt plays a meteorologist whose character communicates through a distinctive series of sounds.

To build the language, the actress recorded voice memos containing clicks, hums and Morse-code-inspired noises, which she shared with Spielberg during production.

The film combines elements of science fiction, thriller and romance, centring on a group of individuals who uncover evidence of alien life while becoming entangled in a wider cover-up. Acclaimed composer John Williams provided the score for the project.

Disclosure Day has also attracted attention at the box office. According to the report, the film exceeded early expectations during its opening weekend, earning $44 million in North America and $49.9 million internationally.

The strong opening performance has generated additional interest in the film’s central mystery and Blunt’s role within the story.
