As House of the Dragon prepares to return for its third season, Steve Toussaint has opened up about the evolving relationship between Lord Corlys Velaryon and Alyn of Hull, revealing that the two characters are far more alike than either of them would care to admit.

Speaking about the dynamic explored in the upcoming season, Toussaint explained that Corlys increasingly recognises aspects of himself in Alyn. While the pair have often struggled to connect, particularly given Alyn's complicated status as Corlys' illegitimate son, the veteran actor suggested that their shared traits become more apparent as the story progresses.

According to Toussaint, both men are driven, ambitious and highly capable seafarers, qualities that have shaped their identities and contributed to tensions between them. The actor noted that Corlys sees echoes of his younger self in Alyn, even if acknowledging those similarities does not come easily.

The relationship is expected to play a significant role in Season 3, particularly during the long-awaited Battle of the Gullet. Corlys and Alyn will find themselves at the centre of the massive naval conflict, which showrunner Ryan Condal has described as one of the most ambitious sequences ever attempted for television.

Toussaint recently hinted at the scale of the battle, noting that both Corlys and Alyn are crucial figures in the confrontation. The actor described the production as enormous and suggested viewers should expect one of the show's biggest action set pieces to date.

Season 2 established Alyn and his brother Addam as key Velaryon figures, while also laying the groundwork for Corlys' growing interest in bringing them closer into the family fold. For book readers, the connection between Corlys and Alyn has long been one of the most significant relationships in the later stages of the Dance of the Dragons, and the HBO series appears poised to explore that bond in greater depth.

The third season will premiere on June 21, 2026, and is expected to push the Targaryen civil war into full-scale conflict. Alongside the major battles, fans can expect more focus on character relationships, including the evolving father-son dynamic between Corlys and Alyn that may ultimately shape the future of House Velaryon.
