A brand-new trailer for Christopher Nolan’s highly anticipated epic The Odyssey is now playing exclusively in cinemas ahead of screenings of Steven Spielberg’s sci-fi blockbuster Disclosure Day, giving moviegoers an early look at one of 2026’s biggest films.

Reports from cinema chains and moviegoers began surfacing this week, confirming that an all-new trailer for The Odyssey has been attached to Disclosure Day screenings. The trailer is currently a theatrical exclusive and has not yet been officially released online, prompting fans to flock to cinemas to catch the preview on the big screen.

The strategy is fitting for Nolan, who has long championed the theatrical experience and premium formats. The Odyssey was shot entirely using IMAX film cameras, making it the first major commercial feature to do so, and the director has repeatedly emphasised the importance of seeing his films in cinemas.

Social media reaction to the new footage has been swift, with fans sharing their excitement after seeing the trailer attached to Disclosure Day. Discussions across online forums suggest the preview contains substantial new footage not included in earlier marketing materials, although Universal has yet to reveal when it will be released publicly.

The pairing of Nolan and Spielberg's films is notable given that both projects are among the most anticipated releases of the year. Spielberg’s original UFO thriller Disclosure Day opened in cinemas on June 12, 2026, while The Odyssey is set to arrive on July 17, 2026.

Based on Homer’s ancient Greek epic poem, The Odyssey stars Matt Damon as Odysseus and features an ensemble cast including Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Zendaya, Robert Pattinson and Lupita Nyong'o. The film has already generated extraordinary interest, with advance IMAX ticket sales setting records and several premium-format screenings selling out long before release.

The exclusive trailer rollout continues a marketing campaign that has leaned heavily into the theatrical experience. Previous The Odyssey footage also debuted first in cinemas before being released online, helping fuel anticipation for what many analysts expect could become one of the highest-grossing films of 2026.

For now, fans eager to see Nolan’s latest footage may have only one option: buying a ticket to Disclosure Day and experiencing the trailer where Nolan arguably wants it seen most, on the biggest screen possible.
