Taylor Swift reflects on 23-year career at Songwriters Hall of Fame induction ceremony in New York

Her induction makes Swift the youngest woman ever honoured by the Songwriters Hall of Fame

Taylor Swift became emotional as she reflected on decades of success, sacrifice and scrutiny while accepting her induction into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in New York on Thursday night.

The 36-year-old singer arrived at the ceremony in a custom black strapless Givenchy gown designed by Sarah Burton. The elegant dress featured a thigh-high slit and delicate embroidered floral detailing, paired with black heels, a side-swept low bun, Swift's signature red lipstick and minimal jewellery.

During a 21-minute acceptance speech at the Marriott Marquis Hotel, Swift paid tribute to her family for relocating from Pennsylvania to Nashville when she was a teenager so she could pursue songwriting, Variety reports.

"It was easy to choose songwriting over everything else in my life," Swift said. "But it couldn't have been easy for my parents and my brother to just pick up and move our entire family from Pennsylvania to relocate to Nashville so that I could hone my craft in the songwriting capital of the world."

The evening featured a performance from Sombr, who covered "Cardigan" and "Dear John" before Swift took the stage. She also thanked filmmaker Steven Spielberg for presenting the award, recalling a conversation with him and his wife, Kate Capshaw, that left a lasting impression.

Looking back on her 23-year career, Swift became visibly emotional while discussing the challenges she has faced in the music industry.

"If I look back at my entire 23-year career in music, the ups and downs, the industry battles, the trials and tribulations, the tears and the cheers and the dogpiling of doubt, the criticism, both fair and unfair, the complete loss of privacy, the world tours and the ego whores and the twists of fate, the absolute magical chaos of this path that I chose when I was too young to remember it ever being a choice at all, songwriting was the easiest thing I ever did."

Swift attended the ceremony with fiancé Travis Kelce, alongside Andrea Swift, Donna Kelce and Spielberg.

Her induction makes her the youngest woman ever honoured by the Songwriters Hall of Fame and the second-youngest inductee overall, behind Stevie Wonder.
