RAWALPINDI:

The discovery of dengue larvae at 42,200 locations during the ongoing anti-dengue campaign has raised concerns about a possible dengue outbreak this season.

According to officials, only two dengue-positive cases have been reported so far, and no dengue patient is currently admitted to hospitals in the city or cantonment areas.

Health authorities screened 1,648 individuals for dengue. Of them, 1,584 were suspected cases, while 62 were confirmed non-dengue patients. The two confirmed patients were discharged after receiving treatment.

During surveillance activities, 1,260 health department teams visited 2,649,477 homes and found dengue larvae in 35,937 houses, where the larvae were destroyed. Teams also inspected 897,493 outdoor locations and detected larvae at 6,263 sites, which were similarly eliminated.

Authorities registered 668 FIRs against individuals responsible for repeated dengue larvae detection despite warnings. In addition, 113 buildings were sealed, 560 challans were issued and fines totaling Rs1.789 million were imposed.

District Health Officer (Preventive) Dr Hafiz Jawad Zahid said anti-dengue activities are carried out on a daily basis and guidelines are provided to prevent the re-emergence of larvae after their elimination.
