Two murder suspects killed in 'encounters'

Two suspects accused of murder in separate cases were killed in two police encounters, over a period of 12-hours, in Rawalpindi. A robbery suspect was also arrested, while a police officer was injured in the encounter in the New Town area. However, another two suspects involved in the murder cases managed to escape.

According to the authorities, when a police team tried to stop two suspicious motorcyclists near the Dhok Naju Pali area of New Town police station, the suspects opened fire at the police, seriously injuring Constable Khurshid Ayaz. He was later shifted to the hospital.

The police said that during the return fire, one suspect was killed while the other was arrested. A stolen motorcycle and weapons were recovered from their possession. The deceased robber was identified as Nigel, alias Sharon, who was previously registered in a robbery and murder case, among several other cases. The police said the deceased suspect had also been sentenced by the court in the murder case. The robber had reportedly also killed another citizen during a robbery just two weeks ago.

The second police encounter took place in the Bochyal area of Gujar Khan police station, when the police team tried to stop three motorcyclists. The suspects opened fire on the police team. In the retaliatory fire by the police, suspect Ghulam Rasool, who was accused of murdering a father and son right before Eid over a property dispute, was killed. However, his two accomplices managed to escape. A motorcycle and weapons stolen at gunpoint from the Race Course police station area was recovered from the suspects.
