Actor Sohail Sameer has faced criticism on social media after comments about joint family living and daughters-in-law went viral, prompting many users to challenge his views on marriage, family dynamics, and independent living.
Speaking in a recent interview, the actor discussed the role of daughters-in-law in joint family households, claiming that some women seek to take control of family affairs after marriage.
“When the girl comes to the house after marriage, she says that I will take the throne and puts the guy’s parents to the side,” he said, adding that some newly married women believe “everything is mine” and attempt to dominate decision-making within the household.
“What kind of thinking is this?” he said. “The mother-in-law is also a woman, and so is the mother who is giving her daughter away. It is a big sacrifice for her to leave everything and go somewhere else.”
The actor added that daughters-in-law should be treated with respect, while maintaining that living separately and attempting to dictate family affairs should be discouraged.
Some said independent living allows couples to establish privacy and healthy boundaries, while others described Sameer’s remarks as misogynistic.
Several users also questioned why debates surrounding daughters-in-law and joint family systems continue to dominate television discussions, arguing that more pressing social issues deserve greater attention.
Sameer has not publicly responded to the criticism. The actor is best known for his role as Nazakat Ali in the hit drama Suno Chanda and has appeared in numerous television and film projects throughout his career.
