Netflix has officially revealed the full main cast for its upcoming live-action Scooby-Doo series, a modern reimagining of the classic mystery-solving franchise that will explore the origins of Mystery Inc.

The series, titled Scooby-Doo: Origins, features McKenna Grace as Daphne Blake, Tanner Hagen as Shaggy Rogers, Abby Ryder Fortson as Velma Dinkley, and Maxwell Jenkins as Fred Jones, with Paul Walter Hauser also joining in a key supporting role. The project is being produced by Greg Berlanti’s Berlanti Productions alongside Warner Bros Television.

In a major first for the franchise, Scooby-Doo himself will be portrayed by a real Great Dane puppy rather than animation or CGI, a creative choice that has already sparked strong reactions from fans online. The show is set to follow the group during their final summer at camp as they become entangled in a supernatural mystery involving a lost Great Dane puppy that may have witnessed a chilling crime.

Production on the eight-episode series is currently underway in Atlanta, with filming having begun in spring 2026. The story reimagines how the iconic group first came together, blending teenage drama with supernatural elements and the beginnings of their lifelong friendship.

The announcement has also generated significant buzz due to the show’s darker tone compared to previous adaptations, with early footage and casting news fuelling debate about how closely the live-action version will mirror the original animated series that debuted in 1969.

A release date has not yet been officially confirmed, but the series is expected to premiere on Netflix in 2027.
